Hamilton has some of the oldest housing stock we work in, and that changes the job. Through Durand, Kirkendall, Westdale and the lower city, century homes were built long before anyone planned for a dryer. The vent was added decades later, often threaded through a stone or brick foundation, around obstacles, and out wherever a hole could reasonably be cut.
Those improvised runs are exactly where lint collects. They tend to be longer than they look, with more bends than a modern install, and the duct material is frequently the flexible foil type that should have been replaced years ago. Above the escarpment, the newer subdivisions have the opposite problem: straightforward routing, but long second-storey runs that nobody has touched since the house was built.
Our documented approach suits both. We clean the entire run, confirm the connection and airflow, check the exterior hood, and flag the duct material if it is the flammable kind.

Not at all, it is a good part of what we do. Older Hamilton homes need more care and more time because the duct route is rarely simple, but the method is the same: clean the whole run, document it, and show you the photographs.
We tell you, in writing, as part of the safety check. Flexible foil and plastic ducting is flammable and should be replaced with rigid metal. We will not pressure you into anything on the day; you get the finding and you decide.
